Local News People Will Pay For

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

We all know what people are reading online. But what are the unique behaviors of local news readers who actually pay? Data scientists and researchers at the Medill School at Northwestern partnered with three metro news organizations — the Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle and Indianapolis Star — to find the answers to that question, analyzing 13 terabytes of reader and subscriber data and talking to local residents. All of these insights are critical for newsrooms to understand as the industry pivots from an advertising-supported business model, with its premium on clicks, to a reader-supported model that rewards other metrics.
